Chakchiuma Swamp Community Quilt

This is one of the most enjoyable and exciting community quilt projects I’ve had to pleasure to lead. Working with The Friends of Chakchiuma Swamp, yesterday was spent with a 19th-century vibe as we all sat around a table embroidering the names of plants and animals at Lee Tartt Nature Preserve. So here’s how this works. There are 25 animals and plants represented each in an interpretive block. The community is donating khakis of all shades, which will be used to connect these blocks and sewn together for the back of the quilt, representing the various grasses found in the swamp. This quilt will then be used as a portable classroom for Robin when school groups visit the swamp. This project is absolutely gorgeous, beautiful, and so inspiring.

Thanks, Mississippi Arts Commission, for making this possible, as well as matching donors Perma R Products, Guaranty Bank & Trust Company - MS, Grenada Garden Club, and Green Thumb Garden Club.
